Photographs:
If there is a particular location, be it a town, village, street or building that you would like a modern photo of, I can discuss this with you. It may be possible to photograph a particular building or street if it still exists and can be identified, or alternatively photograph the site as it is today.
If you know the exact location of a gravestone and would like me to visit and photograph it, please contact me to discuss this with you. I can also arrange for a floral tribute to be placed at the grave should you so wish. Please note that although details of a stone may have been recorded, the success of photography will be dependant on the current condition of the stone.
Costs of photography are by negotiation and are dependent on the location, number of photographs required and speed of delivery. Costs will increase with distance from Edinburgh and urgency of request. Costs of floral tributes are by negotiation.
Copies of Wills or Executries:
I can search for and obtain a copy of a Will or Executry if it exists, provided that you can supply an sufficient details, such as rough date and place of death. You should note that in the vast majority of cases before 1900, there will not be any form of Will or Executry as what property was owned was simply distributed by the family without recourse to law. Prior to 1868 Wills and Testaments covered moveable property only (i.e. not land and/or buildings which were inherited automatically by the eldest son).
I charge £10 for searching for a Will or Executry. The cost of obtaining a copy of any record is dependant on the fees charged by the National Archives of Scotland. Please note that copies may vary in quality dependent on the state of the original. I can alternatively make a transcription of the original, the cost of which will be charged at the rate of £20 per hour, and will depend on the time taken to transcribe the original. Post and packing is included in the search fee. Should the search prove unsuccessful, only the search fee will be charged.
Copies of Maps:
If you wish a copy of a historic map, contact me with your request and I can organise a copy of the area you require at the closest date available. The cost of this service is a £15 administration charge (including post and packing) plus the relevant photocopying or order charge which will vary depending on the size of the map available.

Do you know someone who is interested in their family tree but has no idea where to start, or perhaps is not connected to the internet? Solve that problem of what to buy them for their birthday or Christmas, by giving them a gift voucher to have research done by Scottish Ancestor Search.com. Contact me and pay for the voucher, give me the person's contact details and I will send a voucher, either by email or post, which they can then use to pay for my services as they choose. Vouchers are for a minimum of £20, and upwards in multiples of £5.
